Educational Media Resource Center



The Educational Media Resources Center supports the instruction and the literacy program of the institution. It houses the audio-visual materials like audio-cassettes, optical discs, e.g. VCD, DVD, VHS, transparencies, microfiche, slides, including the hardware and other equipment like TV, Karaoke/ Stereo Component, Slide, Overhead Projectors, LCD projectors, and laptop. This is a centralized center catering all the preschool and elementary pupils, high school, college and graduate students, faculty and staff.

Service Hours
·     7:00 a.m.  – 6:00 p.m.  (Monday to Friday), 
·    Reserved during Saturdays for Graduate School.
*  No service during Sundays and holidays, unless a written request is made two days in advance.

General Rules and Regulations
·       No eating and smoking inside the EMRC.
·       No sitting with feet on another chair.
·       No sitting on the table.
·       Maintain the cleanliness of the center.
·       Observe silence while the show/activity is going on.

Reservations       
Reservation for the use of the EMRC must be made two (2) days before the viewing time, etc. on a first come first serve basis. Forms are available in all the library units.

For Class Instruction/Curricular Activities:

·   Teacher In-charge must fill-up the reservation form and have it verified by the EMRC Librarian and signed approved by the Principal/Dean and Director of Libraries.

           For Extra-curricular Activities:
·   Extra-curricular activities of clubs, organizations or any group using the EMRC are scheduled during activity period.

·  President or Adviser of the organizations, clubs must fill-up the reservation form and have it verified by the EMRC Librarian and signed approved by the SAO, the Adviser and the Director of Libraries.  

Previewing  
·   Videotapes/VCD/DVD not owned by the SCC–EMRC must be previewed by the Librarian and the Teacher before showing to the students.
·   Teachers can preview the Videotapes/VCD/DVD anytime, provided that there are no conflicts in schedule.

Software (Videotapes/VCD/DVD, audio-cassettes, slides, transparencies, etc.)
·   These materials are intended to be used within the Library/EMRC only.
·   But faculty, staff and administrators are given the privilege to borrow videotapes, optical disks & cassette tapes for home use.
·    Dubbing of audio-cassette tapes must be done at the EMRC.

Hardware/Equipment (LCD Projector, Laptop, Overhead Projector, Slide 
         Projector, Cassette Recorder, Video Camera, Karaoke, VCD Player, DVD  
         Player, VHS Player, Speech Laboratory, etc.)
·     These facilities and equipment are not to be rented out for outsiders.  
·     As much as possible these materials are to be used within the EMRC only.
·   If use in the classroom outside of the EMRC, the Faculty/Borrower must fill-up the Borrower’s Slip or submit a Letter of Intent before the equipment is released for use, etc.

Rental (Tariff) For outsider or non-regular class instruction/activity:
·  Rent of the EMRC/Viewing Room: (* package inclusive of only chairs, TV, Karaoke, Light & sounds, DVD,  aircon) :      
-  /P            200.00 (minimum of 2 hrs; 150.00 next succeeding hrs.)
-                   650.00 (half day)
-                1,200.00 (whole day)

·   Separate rent for the following if used in the EMRC Viewing Room (subject to change)

Overdue Fines and Other Penalty (Applicable to Faculty/Staff only)

·   Fine is imposed to those who will not return the materials/equipment on the specified due date:  Videotapes, Optical Disks, Audio-Cassette tapes, etc.  - Php   10.00 / day

Damages and Losses 

·    The use of the Educational Media Resources is free. In case of damage the cost of repair is shouldered by the users. If lost, a replacement of the same material/equipment is required.

 

Cyber Library/Internet Service



Cyber Library/Internet Service (Main Library)


      The Cyber Library/Internet is an area where students, faculty and staff can research and access information through online search using the internet-connected workstations. Access to the internet and information technology resources in the Library are to be used appropriately and in a manner consistent with the instructional, research, community service and administrative goals and objectives of the College.

Users of are expected to have read, understood and strictly follow the prescribed rules and regulations, and shall observe standards of decency at all times.


A bonafide student can avail a wifi access service at any Wifi Zones in the campus. Interested student must own a laptop and may apply for free wifi access by filing the application form at the Director’s Office or the Cyber Library/Network Office.

*      Rules & Regulations:

1.    The computer user must secure User ID and password from the Cyber Library Incharge.
2.  Access to the computer workstation is on a first come first serve basis.
3.  A student is given at least two hours to use the computer per day
4.  All the activities of the users in the workstation computers are strictly monitored.
5.  Facebook and Youtube sites are allowed inside the libraries only from 12:00-1:00 and 
5:00-7:00 P.M., inclusive of SCC's wifi or personal connection.
6. Flash media and diskettes of users must be scanned by the Cyber Library In-charge before using.
7. CDROMs are available in the library for the use of the faculty and students. The use of personal or CD not owned by the SCC Library System shall seek proper permission from the library management before it will be used in the library computer stations.                           
8.  No hacking, breaking in, corrupting, internet tapping, installing unauthorized programs and other similar acts.
9.  The Cyber Library reserves the right to regularly delete files from  system and network hard drives.
10. The Cyber Library reserves the right to define what are UNAUTHORIZED USES for students and this include but are not limited to the following:

a.      Computer games, online games which are not assigned course work;
b.      Movies or videos for leisure;
c.       Entering or transmitting of obscene/pornographic materials;
d.      Sharing one’s own computer account with others or using another person's accounts;
e.       Entering or transmitting computer viruses or any  form of intentionally destructive programs;
f.        Connecting any device to the network without permission;
g.      Modification or destruction of library hardware,  software or data including display and desktop configurations;
h.      Intentional shutting down of the computer.

11.       Maintain the cleanliness inside.

12.       Silence should be observed.

1.  Present your validated school ID or Enrolment card every time you use the Computer/Netbook /Workstation in the Library. Always log-on your name in the Record Book provided.
2.  Access to the computer workstation is on a first come first serve basis.
3.  Each user is given only 30 minutes to use the computer on the available time slot provided but can extend to one hour if there are no demands from other users.
4.  Call the Computer In-Charge or the Librarian for printing job.
5.  CDROMs that are available in the library for the use of the faculty and students. Personal or CD not owned by the SCC Library System should seek proper permission from the library management before using it in the library computer stations.
6.  If there is a need to change the CD, ask the assistance of the Librarian.
7.  Facebook and Youtube sites are allowed inside the libraries only from 12:00-1:00 and 5:00-7:00 P.M., inclusive of SCC's wifi or personal connection.
8.  Playing computer games, online games, and watching movies or videos  for leisure inside the libraries are not allowed.
9.  No hacking, breaking in, corrupting, installing unauthorized programs and other similar acts.
10.  Users should not shut down the computer after using. 
11.  Any problem encountered at the computer workstations must be reported to the librarian immediately.
12.  Violation of any of this will be recommended for sanctions appropriate for serious offenses.

First offense                          - Oral warning
Second offense                      - Written warning
Third offense                         - Endorse to the Disciplinary Committee,

v  Printing for personal use may be requested for salary deduction by filing printing charge form.

Library and Information Service Units


*        Bravo-Manjares Learning Center - 2nd Floor


       The Educational Media Resources Center (EMRC) houses audio-visual resources like audio-cassettes, Video Compact Discs: (VCD), DVD;  video-cassettes: (VHS); microfiche, slides, transparencies, speak and listen, etc. Hardware and other equipment such as TV, Stereo Component, Overhead & Slide Projectors, LCD projector, laptop and video-camera. This is a centralized center catering all library patrons from preschool, elementary, high school, college and graduate students, faculty and staff.


     The General Reference Library is a collection of encyclopedias, almanacs, dictionaries, yearbooks, atlases, maps, charts, posters and pictures, indexes and bibliographies. Materials in this area are intended to be read inside the library only.
   The edutainment and knowledge computer stations located in the general reference library are for the use of electronic encyclopedias, dictionaries and other ebooks (CDROMs). Students could request for the use of CDROM that are available in the Digital Library. Personal CDs should not be used in the Library.

          The Graduate School Library is intended for the use of the Masteral, Doctoral students and Faculty of SCC. This section also includes collections of theses, dissertations and CDROMs of the Digital Library.


       
        The Periodical Library houses all the bound and loose issues of journals, magazines & newspapers. These materials are intended to be read inside the library only, but special consideration is determined by the Librarian to allow faculty or student to borrow for outside use. Bound journals and magazines are classified and cataloged are arranged according to their call numbers. Periodical index is available. This section also includes the Vertical Files of Newspaper Clippings, Pamphlets, Brochures, etc. An internet-connected computer intended to access the Infotrac Online Database is also available at the Periodical Library.


       
      The Philippine Studies collections are placed at the second floor adjacent to the General Reference Library.









*        Herman Krusi Library - 3rd Floor


       The Asiana Section consists of book written by Asian and Foreign authors about Asia and the people. It also includes publications about the Pacific Region, (OCEANIA). The books in this section may be borrowed for (3) three days only.


      The Filipiniana Library consists of books written by Filipino and foreign authors about the Philippines and/or the Filipino people. These may be books published abroad but reprinted in the Philippines. Copies of textbooks are also available here.


The Cyber Library is an environment of internet-connected computer workstations where students can research and access online information for self-study.


      The Fiction Section consists of books intended for leisure reading. Fiction books are arranged according to the author’s surnames in alphabetical order. Books in this area may be borrowed for (1) one week.
       

        The Stack Section houses all the subject areas of studies offered by the College. A bulk of foreign library holdings is found in this section. Books in this area may be borrowed for (1) one week.



   The Reserve and Circulation Section consists of books selected by the teachers for student their students in specific courses. Books are arranged according to subject or under their course title in alphabetical order.    
       This could be borrowed and checked out “over-noon”, “over-night”, and “over-weekend”. The photocopying machine operates in this section.



      The Special Collection consists of speeches, government documents, books of special value, etc. These books are for inside use only. Only the Faculty and Staff can borrow special collection for home use.



* College of Theology Library

        The Theology Library is house at the College of Theology building. It is open on Monday through Friday from 7:00 - 12:00 A.M., 1:00-5:00 P.M.





*  High School Library

  
         The High School Library is at the High School U-shaped building. with 100 seating capacity. The  Library is open on Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. (no noon-break). 


* Preschool and Elementary School 
                      Library 

        The Preschool and Elem School Library is housed at the ground floor of the 2-storey intermediate building, with a seating capacity of 63. The library is open on Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. (no noon-break).







Organization of the Library Collection


The Library materials are organized according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC). Library Materials can be searched using the Card Catalog and the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). These finding aids contain records and other information of books, audio-visual materials and electronic resources that are available in the Bravo-Manjares Learning Center and Herman Krusi Library. Library users can have easy and quick access to library holdings through on-line search method such as author, subject, title, call number and series. Location symbols are indicated for quick retrieval of information sources that can be found in the library. These are shown below:

§  Friends of the Library are researchers not presently enrolled or connected with SCC. They include SCC alumni and outside researchers who are subject to the rules and regulations of the SCC Library System and payment of P50.00 (per day per person) as admission fee which enable them to use and do research in the library. However, they are not allowed to borrow any library material for outside or home use and not allowed to use the online services of the Library.
