Donor of Bravo-Manjares Learning Center Visit SCC Library



Dr. Evangeline Bravo-Manjares together with her son Justin and sister, Mrs. Erlinda B. Gallo visited SCC in August 26, 2010. A welcome program was held at the Educational Media Resources Center which was attended by the some student leaders, library personnel, and heads of offices, principals, deans and administrators.


Before coming to Midsayap, Dr. Manjares was in Silliman University in Dumaguete City for the Foundation Anniversary Celebration and also to receive the “Alumni Outstanding Sillimanian Award”.


Dr. Bravo-Manjares, presently the Dean for Academic Student Services at Nassau Community College, a unit of the State University of New York. She finished her Bachelor of Arts degree at Silliman University. She had her elementary and high school education in SCC. She earned her graduate degree in Social Work from the Philippine Women’s University and her Master of Arts from Columbia University in New York. She obtained her Doctor of Education from the Nova Southeastern University in Florida. 

While in the United States, Dr. Bravo-Manjares continues her community work in the Philippines. Aside from putting up scholarship funds for theology and several students of Southern Christian College, she also supports  the preschool & elementary training department. Also, one of her valuable contributions is in fact being the donor of the Bravo-Manjares Learning Center. 

The Bravo-Manjares Learning Center was established in 2008 to offer literacy program at Southern Christian College. This was made possible through the donations from the Bravo and Manjares families through the initiatives of Dr. Ma. Elena B. Bugacia, VPAA and Dr. Erlinda N. Senturias, President of SCC 1997-2007.


Until now, Dr. Manjares continues to support the Library. In fact she had given through the UBCHEA the $1000 for the improvement and procurement of sound system in the EMRC.


Dr. Bravo-Manjares received many distinctions throughout her career. Among them is having been included in the “Who’s Who in Higher Education” list, sponsored by the Association of Black Women in Higher Education, and the Outstanding Filipino-American Achievers in America Award (Professional [Education] Sector) from the Filipino Heritage Foundation, Inc.

CHED Grants Recognition to SCC to offer MLIS in SY 2011-12

                SCC sent application and other supporting documents to CHED regarding offering of MLIS and other Masteral and Doctoral Programs last January 2010. In August 2010 CHED Supervisors and Technical Panel from CHED National Office came to SCC for ocular visit and to see whether SCC is capable and could qualify to offer such programs.   The  following  CHED Officials include Dr. Jonaib M. Usman, Ms. Rosa Mercado, OIC-Asst. Chief, and Dr. Elnora Conti who evaluated the application for MLIS.


            Finally, the Government Recognition No. 099, series of 2010 is hereby granted to SCC to offer Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) effective SY 2010-11 by the virtue of Resolution No. 524-A-2008 of the Commission en banc signed by Dr. Patricia B. Licuanan, Chairperson of the Commission of Higher Education.



The offering of MLIS as well as MAEM majors in Biology, Mathematics, Teaching English and Doctor of Education will start in June 2011.

SCC Subscribes to Online Library Resource – Infotrac 50

          The CE-Logic conducted a product presentation on the in SCC-EMRC last December 20, 2010. Now, the Library System is subscribing to this Online Library Resource INFOTRAC 50 starting this January 2011. Dr. Progreso E. Umacob, Acting President had already signed the service contract with CE-LOGIC.


            Faculty, staff and students are encourage to use and access CE-Logic set-up for SCC on the said Database:

            The actual hands-on of the electronic journals is conducted so that the library clients are able to learn how to research on these online journals and how these new library resource works. It is one of the ways on how the library could support the research advocacy of this college.

            SCC students are enjoined to use this site to access online journal for research works.

Air conditioners Set up in Herman Krusi Library

The 3rd floor of the Administration-Library Building known for its chronicle name as Herman Krusi Library now looks cozy and conducive with beautiful curtains, fully ventilated and installed with aircondioners.

To provide better reading and study areas to the library clientele and for reason of preservation of library materials, the eight air-condition units were installed last June 2010.

Wi-Fi Zones in Campus

Wi-Fi zones are now available inside the SCC campus. Due to the demands, faculty and staff can now connect to the internet in the designated Wi-Fi areas. The identified Wi-Fi zones include the high school kiosks near the VPAA Office, Graduate School Library, 3rd floor adjacent to Cyber Library, CEREA, CBA Office, CCS office, Registrar's Office and Global House in Facultyville.

Current students, faculty and staff must obtain necessary internet account in the office of the DOL or the Cyber Library.

Users of Wi-Fi are expected to have read, understand and strictly follow the prescribe Wi-Fi policies and guidelines, and observe standards of decency at all times.

Access to the internet and information technology resources are to be used appropriately and in a manner consistent with the instructional, research, community service and administrative goals and objectives of the College.

Sandra Lyn Quinones in the USA for her UB Fellow Program

The UB Fellow Program of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA) offers opportunity for mid-level faculty and administrators selected for leadership positions by their home institutions to work with mentors in the United States and Asia over a two-year period. Fellows spend one semester or four-months in residence at a host university in Asia, and one semester at a host institution in the United States. Fellows are selected for their academic and teaching excellence as well as their leadership potential.

      Sandra Lyn Q. Quinones, the Director of Libraries and Chairperson of the Department Library and Information Science in Southern Christian College was selected as United Board Fellow 2010-2012 by UBCHEA in partnership with the Lutheran University Association, Inc. USA. Her first placement is in Valparaiso University, Indiana, USA from January 3-May 7, 2011.









As a United Board Fellow she collaborates with the Valparaiso University professors in her field of study, visit classes, visit to other universities, attend seminars, special lectures and other cultural events, do research and take part in any activities that would enrich her stay at the university and in the U.S.





Ms. Quinones is now doing good in Valpo, although she struggles with snow and the very cold weather this winter season. Dr. Hugh McGuigan and Mr. “Holly” Moninder Singh are her coordinators. Her mentor is Prof. Rick AmRhein, formerly Dean of Library Services, Chief Information Officer and Chief of Staff in Valparaiso University. Her mentor makes sure that her leadership training starts right and ends right.  For now, Ms. Quinones is seating-in four (4) interesting courses such as Global Leadership and Team Development, Communication and Counseling Skills, Leadership Communication and Documentary Production. She and her mentor met once a week
